Random thoughts I had while driving

I would rather be weird than sick.

Don't get me wrong, community care and protecting the vulnerable and breaking chains of transmission are also super important. But really, being sick sucks. And if the price I have to pay to avoid it is looking like a weirdo who belongs in Mad Max or something? I will gladly pay it.

When exactly do you clear the immunity debt?

To all the people who say "you have to get sick to strengthen your immune system", when does that strengthening kick in, exactly? At what point is the immune system "strong enough" that you aren't getting sick all the time? When do you get to enjoy the benefits of all that suffering?

I would rather be weird than sick.

Suffering is not a virtue.

There is a definite type of discourse that views illness as virtuous and taking action to avoid it as somehow "cheating". But cheating at what, exactly? The number of illnesses you have in a year does not make you better or worse as a person. There are no points earned for suffering. I think that if we can do something to lessen suffering in the world, whether that's buying someone a meal, forgiving a student loan, donating to a fundraiser for someone in Gaza, or yes, wearing a mask to prevent illness, we should do that.

Conclusion

So anyways, do what you can to reduce suffering - both your own and that of others. And wear a mask. Wouldn't you rather be weird than sick? Plus...if we're all wearing masks, it's not weird anymore, is it?
